Wat Benchamabophit was constructed in the late 19th century during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). The primary ordination hall (ubosot) has ornate gables, white marble pillars and a gold-leaf-decorated Thai-style roof.

The Golden Mount is approximately 80m tall and offers a panoramic view of Bangkok’s skyline. Visitors must ascend a set of steps to reach the top and this staircase is flanked by bells that can be rung for good luck.
