Ayutthaya – Khao Yai

Description

  • DAY 1
  • 08:00 Pickup from your hotel in Bangkok and travel to Wat Muang which is an impressive Buddhist temple located in the province of Ang Thong. The centerpiece of Wat Muang is the massive Buddha statue upon a lotus pedestal known as the ‘Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin’ and stands at an impressive height of 93m. Apart from the giant Buddha statue, Wat Muang also features other beautiful structures and buildings in its temple complex including traditional Thai-style buildings, smaller Buddha statues, pavilions and a beautiful garden area.
  • After Wat Muang you will travel to Wat Khun Inthapramun which is also located in the province of Ang Thong and is an ancient temple that was constructed during the Sukhothai period. Wat Khun Inthapramun vast size is still outlined by brick ruins and contains the longest reclining Buddha statue in Thailand which is 50m long. The reclining Buddha image was originally housed in the image hall or Wihan but after a fire raged through the temple the image was abandoned to the elements for hundreds of years.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • After lunch you will travel to Wat Chaiwatthanaram which is located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River to the west of Ayutthaya City. Wat Chaiwatthanaram was ordered to be built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong to honor his mother and features the architectural style influenced by the Angkor temples in Cambodia. A feature unique to Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a large, central prang (Khmer-style pagoda) surrounded by smaller prangs which symbolize Mount Sumeru which is the god’s mountain according to Hindu belief.
  • After Wat Chaiwatthanaram you will then travel to Wat Mahathat which is located next to Pa Than Bridge. This temple is believed to be one of Ayutthaya’s oldest temples, possibly built by King Boromaraja I (1370-88). Wat Mahathat is located in the area of the Ayutthaya Historical Park and here you will find the remains of important old buildings such as pagodas, octagonal pagodas, a royal hall, small temples, murals under a Bodhi tree and the famous sand-stone Ayutthaya-style head of the Buddha image in a tree’s root.
  • After Wat Mahathat you will eat dinner in a local restaurant. After dinner you will be taken to your Ayutthaya hotel.
  • Stay overnight in Ayutthaya hotel/guesthouse.
  • DAY 2
